A calculated journalistic attack without foundation?
The anonymous author, the late Oxfordian Thomas's W70 (?) Wunsch(?) concluded in his long →Article "Marlowe and Shakespeare" on April 27-2014 in the Nation-wide weekly Newspaper " →The Friday " that worldwide media reports on the occasion of the celebrations of Shakespeare have been outbidding each other in their mindless idolatry and he makes an attempt, to take Shakespeare down from his pedestal. [Translat. from German] " The importance that Marlowe had for Shakespeare is really hard to overestimate, ..... It was the personality of Marlowe with their dangerous unpredictability that seemed inspiring to Shakespeare and his work gave decisive impulses and opened new perspectives. " But where did he actually know that Marlowe and Shakespeare were "fundamentally different" in temperament, and yet "spiritual Brothers", that remains a mystery; from their works he can not deduct such conclusions, the Shakespeare expert →Jonathan Bate saw "Richard III " (Shakespeare) and " Edward II (Marlowe) literally as congruent in style and content. When Thomas W. concludes that it may be "very helpful", while thinking about Shakespeare to take a closer look at Marlowe, one has to be aware that he himself has long since ceased to waste a closer look to →newer results and →theories about Marlowe/alias Shakespeare. What a shame! |
