John Stow's "Annales or General Chronicles of England" were continued after his death 1605 by Edmond Howes.- Stow cannot have had anything to do with the "Historical preface (1614)" bearing the signature of Howes. The main part of this Preface suggest that Howes was the author as well as of a corresponding later part "A briefe proofe of Brute".-
J.A.Bryants analysis (Modern Language Review 1950) came to the conclusion that "Howes wanted the Annales of England to serve as an illustration of his own private (his)Story" ! In the "Historical preface" Howes concluded: The originall and true purpose of Chronologie was to shew Successors, the Actions good and bad of their ancestors, and to remaine as documents to pursue the good and eschue the bad.
Wouldn't it be plausible or possible that Howes was one of the many pennames and his thoughts and knowledge originated from concealed Poet Genius?
