In April 23 2016 the world celebrated  the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death .-

Shakespeare,"an almost unknown human beeing, a mythical figure much like Jesus (as William Leahy wrote). But like Jesus we do not celebrate the real man, as we know almost nothing about him,  we celebrate the invisible, almost "fictitious"  Poet  Shakespeare who is associated with the plays in the same way that we celebrate Jesus as he appears in the Gospels."

According to William Leahy  (Vice chancellor of the Brunel University, London), their function is to perpetuate the myth, build the brand, continue the fiction of this great man, this holy icon. That is their function – not to be real, but to be “there”.

This is taken from an article "What Shakespeare, Jesus and Mickey Mouse have in common?" Leahy wrote  in March 23, 2016 in the Online Magazine "The Conversation"

If we really celebrate the invisible, almost "fictitious"  Poet  [named]  Shake-speare who is associated with the plays (as Leahy put it) why Leahy never dared  at least to discuss in more details a corresponding  working hypothesis and theory of Marlowe, who in fact  had to remain invisible and write under fictitious (or semi-fictious) pseudonyms?

Unfortunately an opaque "death certificate" [of Marlowe] is an unsurmount-able obstacle, also for Leahy, even though it was discovered late, in the 20th century (1925), when the Stratford myth had already been fully  established  for almost  hundred years.-

(428) Why so many concealed co-authors of the Shakespeare Plays today ? Isn't ridiculous?

2 authors take the view of a
Multi-Authorship.(=many Authors)..
in contrast to this Web/Blog arguing for
a „Multi-Pseudonymity (=a single Author)
_______________

...a common starting point of the authors
Michael and Pauline Black in their

                          new Book "Shakespeare Unravelled"  (2016)

with all Anti-Stratfordians hey agree that
William of Stratford cannot have been the author of the First Folio Plays attributed to him.

They take, however, the  view of a "Multi-A u t h o r s h i p Theory" (including Fletcher, Peele, Marlowe, Kyd, Middleton, Daniel, Massinger, A-Bacon, Greville) compared to

an opposite "Multi-P s e u d o n y m i t y Theory (including Fletcher, Peele, Marlowe, Kyd, Middleton, Daniel, Massinger, Breton Markham, Wither) of  this Marlowe Blog who sees in Marlowe the single Genius, who has created a more extensive work than previously adopted under a variety of pennames/ aliases/ pseudonyms/ signatures etc.

The flyer of the new book "Shakespeare Unravelled Court plays: the 1623 deception" by Michael  and Pauline  Black  tells us: it delves into the history and controversy surrounding William Shakespeare’s z3) and sheds light on doubts about Shakespeare’s authorship .

The book looks into the reasons which prompted the concealed authorship, principally the fear of Spanish domination at the time because of the impending royal marriage of Crown Prince Charles and a Spanish Princess.

According to the authors , Shakespeare's dramas were written by well-educated writers – certainly not by the attributed author, Shakespeare.”

The book makes the  astonishing claim that the well known life and career of Shakespeare - poet, playwright and Swan of Avon - was largely invented after his death.  The real authors of the 1623 First Folio used the dead Shakespeare’s name to shield themselves from the censorship of the time. Until then, even in his home town, Shakespeare had been honoured as a businessman who invested in the theatre and occasionally acted.

A major objection to the m u l t i- a u t h o r theory (among others) is that it is not possible or extremely unlikely that within in a narrow time frame  of a few decades [suddenly] simultaneously so many exceptional unrivaled poetic genius (a la Mozart) did exist and were able to compose such incomparable oustanding "literary" sonatas, symphonies  etc. .

(421) "Shakespeare's tiresome authorship ." (A german Essay)

B R O T H E R S  in  S P I R I T

. “Marlowe and Shakespeare” –

Position and Influence from a Historical Perspective

Author: Thomas W70 (blog)
Source: der Freitag
2014

Content: An essay written for the 450th anniversary of Christopher Marlowe, placing him in relation to Shakespeare. The text explores the aesthetic, historical, and stylistic connections between Marlowe and Shakespeare, thereby indirectly addressing questions of  influence, and collaboration.

------------------   excerpt 1 (translated)  ------------------------

Christopher Marlowe is also celebrating his 450th birthday this year. The significance that Marlowe had for Shakespeare can hardly be overestimated and goes far beyond the obvious influences he exerted on Shakespeare’s early tragedies and histories. It was Marlowe’s personality, with its dangerous unpredictability, that had an inspiring effect on Shakespeare, giving his work decisive impulses and opening up new perspectives. Even though they were fundamentally different in temperament, they were brothers in spirit. When reflecting on Shakespeare, taking a look at Marlowe as well can be extremely helpful. Viewed from this three-dimensional perspective, Shakespeare emerges much more vividly within a historical and aesthetic context.

-------------------   excerpt 2  ( translated )---------------------

His [Marlowe's] enormous self-confidence was by no means without justification. He was endowed with genius: his first play, Dido, Queen of Carthage, which he probably wrote at not yet twenty for a company of boy actors, already displays an impressive assurance in conception and in verse. His first play written for the public stage, Tamburlaine the Great, was an immediate sensation, and from then on success was his constant companion.

------------------------

Personal C o m m e n t a r y:

It is difficult not to find it regrettable—and indeed astonishing—that the author, despite the situation outlined, appears never to have encountered the long-standing scholarly debate surrounding a Marlowe–Shakespeare authorship controversy.

(412) The ridiculousness of Shakspere's authorship disclosed! (Professionally made Video , part 1)

Richard A. Wagner

has announced to produce a  4-part TV series which delves into the Shakespeare Authorship Issue .

Based on his  book  “The Lost Secret of William Shakespeare” [ freely available online] Richard Allan Wagner has started to produce a  4-part TV series which delves into the Shakespeare Authorship Issue .

The professionally made part 1 now available, exposes well known facts and arguments why there is not enough evidence to support the traditional claim that William from Stratford was involved with the authorship of the plays and poems attributed to the name "William Shakespeare".

One can fully agree with the arguments of Video Part 1  “Exposing the Shakespeare conspiracy“ which enlightens us who the author was not!!!.-

Wagner   summarizes  all  the  evidence (developed over a century), that William of Stratford can not have been the author of Othello or Hamlet.

Since Rick Wagner is a „Baconian“ and a Freemason , I am afraid, that the (promised) upcoming parts are not as easy to digest, …but already now its certain that - beyond all cypherology - the "true Shake-speare" was an influential forerunner ("predecessor") of  Masonic philosophy.

(407) The confessions of the "true" Shakespeare. ( Polimanteia Part 5 )

P O L I M A N T E I A (6)

The  confessions of the  "true" Shakespeare.

"...since the day of my first birth

since the time I was called by Religious Name..."

In "Polimanteia" (1595) the author W.C., which cannot safely be identified,  wrote a remarkable "speech": "A religious Speech" dedicated  "to Englands Children", i.e. to the next generations  to come.

[The last speech is a "Loaylties speech to Englands children]-

In his introductory dedication to Robert Devereux [The Earl of Essex] the self-confident author W.C. declares, that he "takes upon himself Englands Person and speaks like a Commonwealth" and that the Earle should take the paper as "the countries talke".

The author gives the Earl of Essex, Robert Devereux some remarkable facts to understand about himself, that:

1) he foresaw that all miseries, harmes, wants, tragedies and whatelse soever  the world deemed hatefull, should bee falsely suposed to be triggered by him ("proceede out of his wombe")

2) since  the day of his first birth

3) since he first "shined weekely"  in these coastes  (SOED "shine:"  of persons to be brilliant in ability, character, achievement or Position, to be eminent, to excell [old engl.]

4) since the times he was called by a Religious name. - He has lived now so long, that he finds it true, that he will be pardoned...and he concludes this sentence by saying that he never caused, either kingdome to be desolate, prince to bee distressed, people to despaire  or any private person to be malecontent.«

-------------------

If the author talks about his "first" birth, then there must have been a "second" birth. - This would best fit with the assumption, that the author was Marlowe, who had to accept a second birth after changing  his identity.

If the author declares that at his first birth,  he was called  by Religious Name, this would nicely fit to Christopher [Marlowe]

For countless reasons the "Religious speech" (as well as the "Loyalties Speech") to "Englands Children"  reveal that there can be no doubt whatsoever

the author was Marlowe/alias Shakespeare. -  This insight, however,  has to be denied as long as one overlooks the concealed Marlowe / Shakespeare Authorship Problem.

(401) Shakespeare Authorship question: When the Solution is the Problem.-

Good solutions of yesterday can have fatal conseqences if they are put in action today.....

<-- Paul Watzlawick in a famous speech entitled  "When the Solution becomes the Problem"  (s.Video) expressed:
...."Humans have the fatal tendency to hold on to  solutions which have worked one time, even if the informations have changed so much that the solution, which once was the best one may be the only one, is not effective anymore. That is  when a solution turns into a Problem!

Why is it so? I suppose that the behavioural economy prompts us  to hold on firmly to what has been successfull or at least relevant....
but the good solutions of yesterday can have fatal conseqences if they are put in action today.!

When the Solution (Shakspere from Stratford) is the Problem:

(391) Shapiros haughty ignorant attitude towards a Shakespeare authorship!

J A M E S   S H A P I R O  (7)

Shapiro’s position is fixated beyond recognition!

James Shapiro

Dana Gioia
On the occasion of his new book "Contested Will" James Shapiro had an interview with Dana Gioia , Director of the Harman-Eisner Program , Aspen Institute on the Shakespeare authorship.-(Astonishingly Gioia confessed that his Champion is Christopher Marlowe.-)
At the beginning Gioia asked Shapiro to summarize the evidence why Shakespeare was Shakespeare (see blog 102)

Shapiro expressed: „ The truth is: I am not very interested in what people think ( which is a terrible thing to admit, but I‘ll admit it), because those of you who are engaged in arguments with anyone (wether arguments about abortion or creationism or wether the holocaust exist or hundred of other arguments) you learn pretty quickly what positions are , that positions are fixed and no discussion of any issue that I have ever encountered are positions more fixed and might less easily changed than the authorship question.

Why do smart people think dum(p) things (….) why they are saying it, ? because – unlike questions like holocaust, creationism or even abortion and other contested issues it‘s very hard with those issues to track historically when ideas developed to the point where a theory emerges.-

But with this particular case I was able to say with great confidence no one was able to think that somebody other than Shakespeare wrote the plays until the eighteen-forties 200 years after Shakespeare left …"…

What a haughty ignorant attitude! Shapiro is not interested what people think, i.e. in their arguments, (an immense literay history of reflections and arguments!!) , his positions is fixed, his ideas have developed to the point of a theory .

It‘s ridiculous to claim with great confidence that no one was able to think that somebody other than Shakespeare wrote the plays until the 1840th.-

Shapiro’s position (s.VIDEO) fixated beyond recognition!

(390) Oxfordians contest Shapiro's year 1606, Shakespeare's year of Lear... a dead heat for a century

J A M E  S   S H A P I R O  (6)

The second round of the match :

2 books with 2 reply books.

________

THE FIRST ROUND OF THE MATCH
Prompted by the release of Roland Emmerich’s film Anonymous  2011 and the “Declaration of Reasonable Doubt” (meanwhile signed by over 5000  individuals)  the Shakespaere Birthplace Trust (SBT) felt the need to put an end to the erosive development of the Shakespeare Authorship debate, once and for all, by publishing a book

 a Collection of 20 essays:-

Soon afterwards  a reply book "Shakespeare beyond Doubt?" with an identical title (but a question mark!!)  tried to expose the bankruptcy of the SBT claim and challenge them,  to defend their Position !

THE SECOND ROUND OF THE MATCH
Meanwhile the Shakespeare authorship battle seems to have  entered  the second round.-
James Shapiro lately wrote a book "1606 William Shakespeare and the year of Lear",  soon afterwards a Reply book appeared  "Contested year -The year of lear Shakespeare 1606" -(see figures above!)

Oxfordians lately have produced a Reply Statement (E-Book) "Contested year"  against James Shapiros book  "1606,  the year of Lear".-    One could have predicted that the "Oxfordians" (a subgroup of the "Antistratfordians", who claim  that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford was the real Shakespeares ) would submit a cross  statement", since Shapiros description of the world of Shakespeare in 1606 totally  undermines the Oxfordian position by alleging that  three major plays could not have been written until after Oxford’s death in 1604."

"Contested year" is a collection of factual errors that infest every chapter of Shapiros "The year of Lear".- But the dilemma will remain:

Both sides
a) Stratfordians    (" William Shakspere from Stratford  wrote the Canon" and
b) Oxfordians        ("Edward de Vere wrote the Canon ")
are ill equipped and won't get far.-
This explains the "dead heat" for almost a century .
Neither "William" from Stratford nor "Edward" , the Earl of Oxford.

That will only change after a basic shift of paradigm. blog 389-

....on the long run Marlowe has the better cards.

(389) Can we ever expect a "paradigm shift" of the Shake-speare Authorship Dogma?

A  paradigm Change/Shift

will only  slowly arrive...

... if we change from the Oxford theory to the more robust and defendable Marlowe theory...

Those who make the statement: "The scientific question of Shakespeare’s authorship is settled, there is no room for discussion" need to read Thomas S. Kuhn

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions“ published 1962

and come to grips with the reality that all knowledge is inevitably socially constructed.-

Thomas Kuhn popularized the phrase „paradigm shift“ (which he didn’t use) and gave it the meaning it has today. After Kuhn Science is not an objective search for "truth" as many people believe. Instead, "normal science" is a problem solving endeavor. When it leads to anomalies that can no longer be explained within the established paradigm, crisis ensues which is resolved through the establishment of a new paradigm.

This is the case for the Stratford dogma, which causes more problems than it solves. Its widely-held prevailing concept needs a paradigm shift, a re-orientation involving the incorporation of new concepts into mainstream thought, new information seemingly contradictory or radically different from the traditional view

...and the "paradigm Change/shift" will only be achieved when the more radical contradictory view is accepted that
the pen name "Shake-speare" was but one of many feigned author-
names of a singular author (of Edward II /III and Richard II/ III)

(382) Could Shakspere have gained his Unversality in Stratford?

 Could  Shakspere
have gained  his  Unversality in Stratford?

Harold Bloom's "Shakespeare the Invention of the Human"

Stefan Herbrechter "Posthumanist Shakespeares"

Craig Dionne
"Posthuman Lear"

Prof. Kiernan Ryan Professor of English Language and Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK and Emeritus Fellow of Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, wrote the book „Shakespeares Universality, trying – (as a book review tells) - to reclaim
the idea of Shakespeare's timeless universality
from reactionary and radical critics of posthumanists such as Stefan Herbrechter, Craig Dionne a.o

The idea that Shakespeare was "The Inventor of the Human" (Harold Bloom), has lately been discredited by „The posthumanists“ claiming Shakespeare was involved in and complicit in the

    invention ot the "Inhuman".

Ryan is looking for the relationships between the "Human" and the "Inhuman" in Shakespeare's work. He explains the profoundly anachronistic nature of Shakespeare's art as a criticism of the "Actual" from the perspective of the "Possible".......

.....Shakespeare’s Universalism  as an expression of an unprecedented brain ability of his dialogic dialectic capabilities and wisdom, the highest stage of cognition, art and philosophy?

...isn't Ryans "Universalism" of Shakespeare a tautologic paper tiger ?

Did Shakspere gain his Universality in Stratford?

(381) Christopher Marlowe's the real Shakespeare on the rise!?

J A M E S   S H A P I R O  (5)

did not deal with Marlowe in "Contested Will",

how could he come to the conclusion that behind Marlowe there is a lot more energy?

Jennifer Howards senior reporter for The Chronicle,  March 28, 2010 wrote an article  entitled

A Shakespeare Scholar Takes on a 'Taboo' Subject.-.

The article was a review

on James Shapiros new Book "Contested Will" ,

which confirms his long fixed orthodox view that William Shakspere of Stratford-upon-Avon created the plays and poems associated with his name.

Jenniffer Howard  realized that Shapiro was not interested  in rehashing the authorship debate  and did not attempt an exhaustive review of the merits of the competing claims.

Unfortunately Shapiro was not interested 'what' people argue about the authorship question, but 'whythey do it.

----------------------

Howard seemed surprised to observe that Shapiro

a) dared to argue that the authorship question is the one subject that experts have deliberately neglected  and

b to speak out why this subject remains virtually taboo in academic circles, as well as in the consequences of this collective silence.

The final paragraph of Jennifer Howards essay comes to an unexpected conclusion not deductable from the text of her prior article :

"Meanwhile, the authorship debate shows no signs of fading away. Francis Bacon's star has waned, eclipsed long ago by the Earl of Oxford's.  - Now Christopher Marlowe's star is on the rise. "It looks like there's a shelf life to every candidate" of about 75 or 80 years, Shapiro says. "There's a lot more energy and enthusiasm behind Marlowe. To me it's still the same argument. It's just a different life being read into the same plays."

Spapiro did not deal with Marlowe in "Contested Will", how could he come to the conclusion that behind Marlowe there is a lot more energy?
